My dad is awesome. He retired from the bank, quit smoking, lost a toddler worth of excess weight, began walking, raced numerous half marathons, then picked up running at age 65. That is awesome.
He is one of the main reasons I got into running a number of years ago. His successes on the road are what I wanted to replicate in my early run days.
Two other reasons why I began running and continue to run: my own kids. I hope that one day they too will think their dad is awesome. And I hope that in the same way my dad inspired me to get outdoors and get moving, that I will instill the same passion for sport and healthfulness within my kids.
Happy Father’s Day to all dads out there.
